I’ve wanted to put together a moxon vise, but I’ve never been crazy about the screws sticking out the front. I also didn’t want to sit there turning screws forever.
So I figured out a little half-nut quick-release mechanism, inspired by this Pask Makes video and this GrinWood video. Turn clockwise and the threads engage normally, turn counterclockwise and they swing out of the way so the screw slides freely.
I’ll add a picture of the nuts and a video of the mechanism up here some time.
I found some ⁸⁄₄ purpleheart boards on sale; it’s a very heavy vise.
Finish is raw tung oil, I think about five coats.
