After the non-failure of the prototype mandolin, I thought I’d have a go at building one with nicer materials.
This one’s a prototype for a bass guitar that I’ve wanted to build since I was a kid, with a curly horn and pointy end. I did not quite nail the carve around the edges.
This one’s basically the same construction. The neck is cherry and maple, the body is redheart, maple, and cherry.
Redheart is a terrible wood. It was so red when I made it. Now it’s kinda gray.
The fretboard is katalox, which is a great wood. Usually pretty dark, and not endangered that I can tell.
The pickup is a no-name Telecaster bridge pickup under a 3D printed cover.
The bridge and tailpiece are 3D printed steel. The bridge height was designed to be adjustable, it’s just sitting on Tune-O-Matic posts.
